FootfallCam 3D Pro2™

FootfallCam 3D Pro2™ is specially designed to support low ceiling height (as low as 2.1m) counting. Embedded with a powerful 1.2GHz Quadcore processor, it is packed with feature upgrades while maintaining performances of its predecessors. Specifically designed to run complex video processing algorithms, the GPU runs our AI-based algorithms which utilises depth, colour and texture pattern to identify a person, producing superior accuracy compared to using colour pattern alone. The built-in sensor further improves accuracy in low-light, indoor and high-noise environments. Delivered in aluminium casing for heat dissipation, the overall form factor is more compact and inconspicuous than ever.

Store staff personnel within retail chains or shopping mall personnel will be required to troubleshoot the FootfallCam device to ensure the network connection to the counter has not been lost. FootfallCam uses a single LED lighting from the device to convey the issue the counter is currently facing.

   - The purpose of this handbook is to be a reference to provide installers with the knowledge of the installers' job scope, price list, terms and condition, and general workflow. Installers must read through this handbook thoroughly to ensure complete understanding of the topics mentioned. Note that price listed servers as a reference and may be subjected to changes.

2.0.1 Installer's Job Requirement

FootfallCam's people counter is designed with the ease of installation in mind to ensure the workflow of FootfallCam installation goes smoothly without hassle. FootfallCam is committed to reducing the workload of our certified installers by providing clear and straightforward guide.

2.0.2 Skill Required for the installation

The installation for the FootfallCam counters is simple, there are only a few requirements that is needed for the installation process. The installer must have knowledge of:

• The usage of smartphone for communication with the support team throughout the installation process.

• The crimping of Cat5 Network cables according to TIA/ EIA 568B colour code.

• The usage of hand drill for the drilling of holes to mount the counters.

• The basics of configuration network for the counter.

• The usage of computer for onsite quick tuning.

• The ability to conduct simple diagnostics based on the colour indicated by LED light on the counter.

2.0.3 Scope of work during installation

• Installers will aim to have the cables to be hidden from sight, preferably above ceiling.

• In any event that hiding the cables is unfeasible, the cables will be run within PVC/GI conduit/trunking.

• The cables will have to be terminated and crimped according to TIA/ EIA 568B colour code.

• The entrance has to be inspected in order to find an optimal spot for the counter (i.e.: away from swinging doors)

• The counter needs to be mounted to the ceiling, wall bracket or drop pole may be needed depending on the height of the ceiling.

• The 2 cables (1 from FootfallCam counter to the PoE, and 1 from PoE to the router) must be labelled.

• The IP settings will be configured by the installers. (The installation site may have special IT requirements and the installer must configure the settings accordingly)

• Simple tuning involving drawing the in and out line will have to be calibrated by the installer.

• After the counter has been set up, it is the installers' duty to test the whether the counter function normally. If the counter does not function as intended, the request for verification button must be pressed.

• The ceiling height measured by the installers will have to be correctly inputted into the software, along with the time zone. Ceiling height is measured as the height from the floor to the counter mounted area.

• The Pairing Code provided by the customer will need to be entered into the IT details page in Device Manager.

• Refer to the installation guide for comprehensive guide on the installation process.

2.1 Pre-installation Preparation

2.1.1 General Workflow

2.1.2 Installation Tools

Cat5 network cable to connect the counter from the midspan.	RJ45 crimp tool to terminate the cat5 network cable.	Screwdriver to fix the counter in place after mounting.
Optional installation tool to conceal the cable after the installation.	General height of installation for counter ranges from 3 metres and above.	Scissor to reduce the length of the cat5 network cable.

2.1.3 Site Survey

STEP 1 - Perform site survey of the environment prior to an installation.

STEP 2 - Complete the Site Survey Form to ensure the counter installation positioning.

STEP 3 - Snap photo and check with FootfallCam to assist in determining the counter installation positioning.

2.1.3.1 Floor Plan Preparation

STEP 1 - Provide ceiling height and measurement for coverage area to FootfallCam.

STEP 2 - FootfallCam will design the floor plan including quantity of counters required, cabling location and mounting position of the counter before every installation.

2.2 Installing the Device

2.2.1 Cabling Guidelines

2.2.1.1 Connect using Single port POE injector

Option 1 - Connect with Midspan

STEP 1 - Connect Cat5e cable (self-prepare) from counter to midspan. STEP 2 - Plug in the counter and secure it onto the ceiling with screws provided. STEP 3 - Connect another Cat5e cable from midspan to router and turn the power on.

2.2.1.2 Connect using POE Switches

Option 2 - Connect with Powered over Ethernet Switches

STEP 1 - Connect Cat5e cable (self-prepare) from counter to PoE switches. STEP 2 - Plug in the counter and secure it onto the ceiling with screws provided. STEP 3 - Connect another Cat5e cable (Pink) from midspan to router and turn the power on.

2.2.1.3 Cable Crimping standard

Installer MUST follow TIA / EIA 568B colour code for crimping the Cat5e cable to avoid crosstalk interference.

2.2.2 Device Positioning

2.2.2.1 Number of devices required

STEP 1 - Access to FootfallCam Calculator to determine the number of counter(s).

Some entrances are partially blocked by permanent unmovable obstructions, this should not be included when measuring the entrance width. Instead, the maximum potential pathway width should be measured.

*Note: If the counter that you have is not suitable for this ceiling height, please use a wall bracket or drop pole to ensure it is installed at the suitable ceiling height for this model. Please refer to FootfallCam Coverage Table.

STEP 2 - Complete the process by entering all the required fields and click on Calculate.

2.2.2.2 Ideal position for each entrance type

Type of Entrance
Sliding Door Counter require to install in the middle of the entrance perpendicularly down towards the floor. Counting line must align with the entrance and parallel to the door.	Swinging Door Counter require to install at least 0.5 - 1 metre away from the door. Counting line must clearly define the swinging path and make sure the door is not overlapping the counting zone.
Wide Entrance Wide entrance requires multiple counters based on different ceiling height and entrance width. Use FootfallCam Calculator to identify mounting gaps between each camera.	Open Ceiling Environment Use a drop pole to overcome the obstacles that are obstructing the live view of the counter.
Slanted Ceiling Use a wall bracket on the along the side of the wall to ensure that the counter will be installed along an even surface.	Glass Entrance Use a wall bracket on the along the side of the wall to ensure that the counter will be installed along an even surface.

2.2.2.3 Scenarios of Device Position not Ideal 

Scenario(s)	Problem and Corrective Action
Not Installed Right Above the Entrance	Problem: Device is installed too far away from the store entrance (red box).The tracking on people may not work as expected and causes data inaccuracy. Corrective Action: Device should be repositioned closer to the store entrance where the intended tracking zone (red box) is at the middle of the device live view
All Possible Walk Paths are not Fully Covered	Problem: Device is not installed at the middle of the entrance, causing the people who walked across the left side of the entrance (red box) cannot be tracked Corrective Action: Device should be repositioned to a bit more left from the current position so that all walk paths of the entrance can be covered and tracked

2.2.2.4 Obstacle to Avoid

If the counter live view is blocked partially by the drop down obstacle, it may cause the counter not able to count accurately due to the limited tracking zone.

*Note: In most circumstances less than 20% of view being blocked shouldn't affect the counter accuracy.

If there are any exit sign near the entrance, kindly try to measure the height of the sign board, then use the LiveView Clearance Calculator to check the clearance distance, using  the lower section of FootfallCam Calculator.

For example:

The LiveView will be blocked by the exit sign in this position.

Other than that, kindly avoid any obstacle to be include in the device LiveView range, as it can cause the device not able to pick up counting accurately. Below is a bad example:

2.2.3.1 Surface Mounting

FootfallCam Pro2

People counter is installed directly on the surface of the ceiling. This method is commonly used for installation and can be done easily.

2.2.3.2 Flush Mounting

Customer may opt to use flush mount for installation should they wish to hide the people counter out of visibility.

2.2.3.3 Drop Pole Mounting

There are 2 types of drop pole which are 0.6 meters and 3.0 meters. Drop pole is used for installation when the height exceeds standard ceiling height of 4 meters.

Customer may install people counter using wall bracket should surface mounting is infeasible based on store environment.

3.2 Device Network Setting 

3.2.1 Updating corporate network

When users want to change their IP settings on their corporate network, the IP details inputted on the FootfallCam device must be updated as well. If the IP details is not updated on the FootfallCam counter prior to the change of the corporate IP network settings, the counter will not be able to upload visitor counting data to the FootfallCam Analytic Manager.

1. Access to the device. See 3.0.1 Accessing the device 

   Note

   A user may do this remotely if they can replicate the stores' internal network.

2. Update the IP setting

   Once the user has access into the FootfallCam device, the user will need to overwrite the existing IP detail with their new setting.
   
   

   1. The user will need to navigate to the Settings tab on the bottom of the page.

   2. Select the option Static IP.

   3. Once the user has inputted the new IP settings, click Save to update the settings.

   4. When the new IP setting is applied, the FootfallCam device will appear as offline due to unmatched IP setting between the device and the corporate network.

      Note

      If the new IP setting is inputted incorrectly and saved, the user will not be able to remotely access the FootfallCam to update it. 

3. Update internal network settings

   Once the FootfallCam device has been configured for the new IP setting, the FootfallCam will appear as offline and will be unavailable for remote access. The user can then configure their corporate IP settings to match the settings inputted into the FootfallCam device.

   Note

   If the user updated their internal network settings prior to the change in FootfallCam device, the user must visit the site to change the IP setting.

3.2.2 Redirecting the server address

When users would like to use a new server for data access from the FootfallCam, the FootfallCam device manager must be logged in onsite to update the new server address. Once the server address is updated, the device must be re-allocated on the new server prior to data display.

   Note

   A user may do this remotely if they can replicate the stores' internal network. 

2. Update the server address - Once the user has access into the FootfallCam device, the user will need to overwrite the existing server address with the new detail.

   2. Under the option Connect to Analytic Software, enter the desired address of the new server where data will be streamed to. To use FootfallCam cloud server, please enter www.footfallcounter.com.

   3. Once the server address is updated, Reboot the counter.

3.3 Device Pairing 

In order to pair the devices with the installed site, engineer MUST enter the paring code for the specific site shared by the customer on every devices installed. Otherwise, the data collected by the devices would not able to send to the server for the reporting purpose. 

Pairing code is unique for all site(s). Please refer to Section 4.1.1 Share Pairing Code.

3.4 Basic Tuning

STEP 2 - Click on Tuning tab.

STEP 3 - Click on Draw in Basic Tuning tab.

STEP 4 - Complete the process by drawing line and click on OK to apply the changes.

3.4.2 Staff Exclusion Kit

Staff exclusion kit is an additional peripheral attached to the counter internal chipset accompanied by a remote button. User require to press the remote button within the Staff Exclusion Zone for excluding the counting of staff. Two (2) outcomes will be trigger once the remote button is pressed are listed as below:

OUTCOME 1 - LED light on counter will blink 3 (three) times in Red colour and remain in Red colour for 5 seconds to indicate that the staff has been excluded.

OUTCOME 2 - LED light on counter will blink 3 (three) times in Red colour before reverting to original colour.

Staff requires to press the remote button within the exclusion zone (pink).	Staff will automatically be detected as staff.	Staff can proceed to walk through the entrance as usual.

3.5 Walk Test

Initiate a walk test after installing the counter at the site. The walk test varies between 2 minutes to 15 minutes with at least 20 IN and 20 OUT and the time can be adjusted based on your preference.
The purpose of doing the walk test during the installation:

1) This is useful to collect sufficient sample size for faster and better verification. 
     -all the possible pathways can be tracked from the device
     -to speed up the verification process by using the walk test sample (some stores might have a really low
      sample from the scheduled video)
2) To ensure all the add-on features can work properly (e.g staff exclusion tags, staff exclusion button)

STEP 1 - Navigate to the tab Usage, click on Walk Test to start recording a video.

STEP 2 - After choosing the video duration between 2 minutes to 15 minutes, proceed to click confirm.

STEP 3 - Walk all possible ways that a normal visitors would enter the premise.

STEP 4 - A head tracker should appear on the person.

STEP 5 - Counts will be triggered when the person crossed the INOUT lines.

STEP 6 - Once the video has finished recording, there will be a green tick appear to notify. The video is uploaded to server for FootfallCam Specialist to fine tune the settings.

STEP 4 - Enter the password reset key generated from the Key Generator page in the V9 Portal. Please contact your system administrator if you do not have the reset key.

3.6.1.2 Live Page

This interface displays real-time video feeds alongside people counting analytics, showing either the default detection parameters or custom-tuned counting lines as configured by the user.

Last 24 Hours Footfall

This interactive visualization displays visitor traffic trends from the past 24 hours, presenting the data in either bar chart or line graph format. Users can toggle the display of in/out metrics by selecting individual elements in the chart legend.

3.6.1.3 Analytic Page

In this page, the user can select a date range to display footfall data for the device, along with the desired time granularity (days, hours, or minutes). Additionally, they have the option to export the filtered data to a CSV file.

3.6.1.4 Validation Page

This page enables users to review scheduled recordings and manually initiate walk test recordings to capture test videos. During any active recording--whether a walk test or scheduled session--a prominent red border appears around the live view as a visual indicator. For walk tests, the system enforces a strict 15-minute maximum duration, automatically terminating the recording once the limit is reached to ensure consistency and manage storage.

3.6.1.5 Config Page

This is the page to set the IT details for the device:
The config page is divided into two distinct sections for streamlined device setup. The upper portion facilitates basic tuning adjustments, while the lower section houses comprehensive configuration settings.

Tuning Adjustment

Within this interface, users can define critical monitoring parameters by manually drawing tracking zones, entry/exit lines (in-line and out-line), exclusion lines, and occupancy zones. For deployments utilizing multiline counting functionality, each parameter can be assigned to specific regions of interest (ROIs). The system provides full editability - users may modify existing parameters by adjusting their ROI assignments or permanently delete unnecessary elements.

Configuration setting

Counting	The content of this tab dynamically adjusts based on the selected mode. Each mode provides tailored settings to ensure optimal functionality based on the device's operational configuration. In Stereo Vision Mode, users can configure the device's mounting height, select the counting method (e.g., Group Counting, Child Counting), and define the tracking preference (feet or head). Additionally, the human height range can be customized to fine-tune detection accuracy.
	In Wide-Angle Mode, users can select the human detection model (currently limited to FFC-peopleDetection-v1.2), adjust detection sensitivity, and set the travel speed threshold to optimize performance for different environments.
Network	Users can configure the device's network settings, including IPv4 Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, Primary DNS, and Secondary DNS. Note that manual IPv4 assignment is disabled when DHCP is selected as the IP allocation method. Additionally, an optional proxy setting is available for users who require intermediary server routing. For more details, please click here.
System	Users can allocate the device to a specific site by entering the corresponding pairing code in this section. The device name can also be modified for easier identification and management. For system maintenance, users have the option to reboot the device or restore it to factory settings, which resets all configurations while keeping the device allocation intact on the server. To reassign a device that is currently allocated to Site A to a different Site B, users simply need to update the pairing code and save the changes. The system will then prompt a confirmation to reboot the device. Upon reboot, the device will be successfully allocated to the new site.

3.6.1.6 Status Page

In this page, the user will be able to check the device setup status, allocation status and the network status.

Device Setup Status - This is the most important part, as it will state the status of the device.

Liveview

The liveview varies depending on whether Stereo Vision Mode or Wide-Angle Mode is active.

This section indicates whether a device has been successfully assigned to a site (Allocated) or is pending assignment (Not Allocated).

Network

This section indicates the device's connectivity settings, including IP assignment mode (DHCP/Static), IP address, subnet mask, gateway, DNS servers, and optional proxy details for proper network communication.

3.6.2 Device Network Setting 

3.6.2.1 Updating IP setting network

When users want to change their IP settings on their corporate network, the IP details inputted on the FootfallCam device must be updated as well. If the IP details is not updated on the FootfallCam counter prior to the change of the corporate IP network settings, the counter will not be able to upload visitor counting data to the FootfallCam Analytic Manager.

1. Access to the device. See 3.0.1 Accessing the device 

   Note

   A user may do this remotely if they can replicate the stores' internal network.

2. Update the IP setting

   Once the user has access into the FootfallCam device, the user will need to overwrite the existing IP detail with their new setting.
   
   

   1. The user will need to navigate to the Network tab on the bottom of the Config page.

   2. Select the option Static IP.

   3. Once the user has inputted the new IP settings, click Save to update the settings. A message will prompt that the device will need to reboot to take effect.

   4. When the new IP setting is applied, the FootfallCam device will appear as offline due to unmatched IP setting between the device and the corporate network.

      Note

      If the new IP setting is inputted incorrectly and saved, the user will not be able to remotely access the FootfallCam device to update it. 

3. Update internal network settings

   Once the FootfallCam device has been configured for the new IP setting, the FootfallCam will appear as offline and will be unavailable for remote access. The user can then configure their corporate IP settings to match the settings inputted into the FootfallCam device.

   Note

   If the user updated their internal network settings prior to the change in FootfallCam device, the user must visit the site to change the IP setting.

3.6.2.2 Redirecting the server address

When users would like to use a new server for data access from the FootfallCam, the FootfallCam device manager must be logged in onsite to update the new server address. Once the server address is updated, the device must be re-allocated on the new server prior to data display.

1. Access to the device. See 3.0.1 Accessing the device 
   
   Note

   A user may do this remotely if they can replicate the stores' internal network. 

2. Update the server address - Once the user has access into the FootfallCam device, the user will need to overwrite the existing server address with the new detail.

   

   
   

   1. The user will need to navigate to the System tab on the bottom of the Config page.

   2. Under the option Analytics Software Server Address, enter the desired address of the new server where data will be streamed to. To use FootfallCam cloud server, please enter http://footfallcounter.com.

   3. Once the server address is updated, Reboot the counter.

3.6.3 Device Pairing 

In order to pair the devices with the installed site, engineer MUST enter the paring code for the specific site shared by the customer on every device installed. Otherwise, the data collected by the device would not able to send to the server for the reporting purpose. 

Pairing code is unique for all site(s). Please refer to Section 2.2.1.1 How to Add Device During Installation.

3.6.4 Basic Tuning 

3.6.4.1 Tuning instructions

3.6.5 Walk Test

Initiate a walk test after installing the counter at the site. The walk test varies between 2 minutes to 15 minutes with at least 20 IN and 20 OUT and the time can be adjusted based on your preference.
The purpose of doing the walk test during the installation:

1) This is useful to collect sufficient sample size for faster and better verification. 
     -all the possible pathways can be tracked from the device
     -to speed up the verification process by using the walk test sample (some stores might have a really low
      sample from the scheduled video)
2) To ensure all the add-on features can work properly (e.g staff exclusion tags, staff exclusion button)

STEP 1 - Navigate to the Validation tab, click on Start Recording button to start recording a walk test video.

STEP 2 - After clicking on the Start Recording button, the system will display walk test guidelines. The walk test recording will automatically begin after a 5-second countdown

STEP 3 - After showing the guideline, a timer will appear on the liveview, indicating the recording time. A red border will frame the liveview as a visual indicator of active recording.  To stop recording, click the Stop Recording button.

STEP 4 - Walk all possible ways that a normal visitors would enter the premise.

STEP 5 - A head tracker should appear on the person.

STEP 6 - Counts will be triggered when the person crossed the INOUT lines.

STEP 7 - Upon clicking the Stop Recording button, the recording session will immediately terminate. The red border framing the live view and the active timer will disappear, providing clear visual confirmation that recording has ceased. 

3.6.6 Bind CCTVs to Pro2 for Footfall Data Collection

• Go to the `Camera` page, then click on `Add Camera` button to start binding CCTVs. Enter the username, password, camera name, IP address, Vendor and Model (optional) accordingly. See image below for an example:
  
• Vendor and Model is optional, it helps to pre-fill the `Relative URL Path` below according to the format of the selected vendor. If you know the `Relative URL Path` for your device, you may skip this.
• For the `Relative URL Path`, it is referring to the URL portion in the RTSP link after the port number. Using FootfallCam device as an example, the RTSP link is rtsp://<ip_address>:554/channel=1&stream=1.sdp?, so its relative url path would be `channel=1&stream=1.sdp?` as shown in the image. If `Vendor` is selected, this will be pre-filled, you may modify it if the relative url path for your device is different from the pre-filled one.
• You may use the `Check Live Stream` button to confirm the RTSP link connection is okay. Then click on the `Add Camera` button to save the CCTV settings.
• The added CCTV would appear in the `Connected Camera` list as shown below:
  
• Go back to the `Live` page, you should see the CCTV video stream you just bind is displayed.
  

Note:

• For FootfallCam devices to access and process live RTSP video streams from on-site NVR/DVR and CCTV cameras, all devices must reside in the same local subnet.
• If the FootfallCam device and the CCTV system are on different subnets, and subnet separation must remain, please consult your network administrator to add inter-VLAN routing or static routes between the two subnets.

3.6.7 Site Network Requirements for using FootfallCam Pro2

3.6.7.1 Firewall Whitelisting Requirements

• To ensure uninterrupted communication between FootfallCam devices and FootfallCam Cloud services, please ensure the following IP addresses and ports are whitelisted in the site's network firewall, proxy, and VPN security rules.
  

3.6.7.2 Proxy Server Considerations

• If the site network enforces internet access through a proxy server, please configure the Proxy Settings on the Pro2 device control panel accordingly, see an example below:
  
• If the proxy uses SSL inspection, the network administrator may need to whitelist the FootfallCam's cloud domain to prevent TLS handshake errors.
  
  

3.6.7.3 Bandwidth Usage Estimation

Entrance Counting ONLY

• 2MB/day (12hr operation), assume hourly 100 people In&Out footfall activities.

Path Map Playback Enabled

• On average 60MB/day (12hr operation), assume 20 people being tracked actively in the liveview.
• Can opt for out of operating hour data uploading

4.0.1 Devices Offline Handling for Operation Issue 

Through the daily checking of the devices online status in deice list in V9 Analytics portal, the manager can better manage the device active status in the V9 analytics portal so that it will reflect the actual devices which required to closely monitor.

A) Disable the counting - due to Readiness 

• Entrance not in use 

• Site not ready- under renovation, temporary closed 

B) Remove the devices from portal if: 

• Devices has approved for RMA

• Devices has physically removed from the ceiling 

4.0.2 Device Offline Troubleshooting 

Usually the devices will show offline from the Analytics portal if the light indication on the device is NOT BLUE. If below issue has occurred on the people counter, you may perform diagnosis based on below guidelines:

4.1 Device Replacement 

STEP 1 - Unscrew the device from ceiling.

STEP 2 - Unplug the network cable.

STEP 3 - Plug in the new device with the network cable and screw it on the original position.

STEP 4 - Check the counter LED light, make sure it is turned to Blue.

4.2 Device Firmware Upgrade 

STEP 1 - Connect counter SSID via Wi-Fi and login with password: Please get from FFC support personnel.

STEP 2 - Access to web browser (Safari, Google Chrome) and enter URL: http://192.168.4.1.

STEP 3 - Login with password: Please get from FFC support personnel.

STEP 4 - Click on Upgrade on the top right and navigate to Firmware Upgrade.

STEP 5 - Device will reboot automatically after 5 minutes once the upgrade is complete.

4.3 Device Reboot 

4.3.1 Soft Reboot

STEP 1 - Connect counter SSID via Wi-Fi and login with password: Please get from FFC support personnel

STEP 2 - Access to web browser (Safari, Google Chrome) and enter URL: http://192.168.4.1.

STEP 3 - Login with password: Please get from FFC support personnel.

STEP 4 - Click on Reboot on the bottom.

STEP 5 - Click on Reboot in the pop-up message.

4.3.2 Hard Reboot

STEP 1 - Find the cables for the Footfall Counter in the back office. Can be directly from the PoE switch or PoE Midspan.

STEP 2 - Unplug the cable that is providing power to the counter.

STEP 3 - Make sure the LED on the counter is off and wait for 5 minutes.

STEP 4 - Plug the cable back into its original place.

4.4 Device Network Diagnosis

STEP 1 - Go to Settings page based on the image above.

STEP 2 - Scroll to the bottom of the page, click on the Diagnosis button and wait for 30 to 60 seconds.

STEP 3 - A CounterNetworkDiagnosis.txt text file will be downloaded. If there is any error or issue downloading the text file, kindly contact FootfallCam Helpdesk for further technical support: support.footfallcounter.com

STEP 4 - Send the CounterNetworkDiagnosis.txt file to Footfallcam team.

• • Through Support Chat App:

    • For Android user, copy the text file and send it to Footfallcam support group.

    • For Iphone users, convert the text file to PDF format and send it to Footfallcam support group.

  • Through Support Ticket:

    • Attach the text file into the support ticket and send it as a message for Footfallcam team to further check on the issue.

  • Through Email: 

    • Attach the text file and send the email to support@footfallcam.com with the device serial as email subject. 

4.5 Device 3DPro2 Troubleshooting

4.5.1 Device Red Light

When powering up the people counter, it stays in red light, kindly follow the below procedure to troubleshoot.

1. Client to perform power cycle (Hard Reboot) and make sure the cables are plugged in firmly.

2. Ping the people counter's existing IP and provide the result to FootfallCam Support.

   • Refer to [16] of Image to retrieve the last seen IP of the people counter.

   • In PC, open command prompt (Window search: cmd)

   • ping -t [IP/External IP]

   • Example: ping -t 192.168.4.1

3. Check whether the people counter is broadcasting Wi-Fi SSID.

4. If people counter unable to ping (Step 2) and don't broadcast Wi-Fi SSID (Step 3), the end-user must provide the evidence below to raise for RMA (If within warranty).

5. Provide the above evidence when raising a support ticket to speed up the process of RMA.

If the people counter able to be ping OR showing Wi-Fi SSID, please provide the evidence (Screenshot) when raising the ticket, hence the support will be escalated to provide further assistance.

4.5.2 Device No Light

When the device doesn't show light after powering up, kindly follow the below procedure to troubleshoot.

For users that use POE Injector: 

1. Check if the POE Injector is powered up properly.

2. Check if all the ports are plugging in properly.

3. Change the cable if the device/ POE Injector not working as expected.

4. If unable to figure out what's wrong with the current setup, please provide evidence (Photo) in a support ticket.

For users that use POE Switch:

1. Check if the POE switch is powered up properly.

2. Check if the port used by the device is working properly.

4.5.3 Device Green Light

4.5.3.1 Flashing Green Light

When the LED displays a flashing green light, it typically indicates that the device is encountering difficulties in obtaining an IP address or establishing a network connection.

1. Inspect the network cable: Ensure that the network cable connecting the device is in good condition and securely plugged in.

2. Consult with your IT team: Verify with your IT team if any changes have been made to the network configuration, such as adjustments to the allocated IP address, DNS, or Gateway settings.

3. Provide the network diagnostic troubleshooting log: Please submit the network diagnostic troubleshooting log to FootfallCam Support.

If your IT team confirms that no changes have been made to the network configuration and the issue persists, kindly attach the troubleshooting text file to the support ticket along with any relevant details. Our support team will promptly assist you in resolving the issue.

4.5.3.2 Constant Green Light

When the LED displays a constant green light, it typically indicates that the device is connected to the network but unable to establish a connection with the FootfallCam server.

1. Verify the server address input: Ensure that the server address is entered correctly in the device settings.

2. Whitelist FootfallCam server addresses: Confirm that all FootfallCam server addresses are whitelisted to allow communication with your network.

3. Provide the network diagnostic troubleshooting log: Please submit the network diagnostic troubleshooting log to FootfallCam Support.

   Guideline: Network Diagnostics Troubleshooting

If you are unable to resolve the issue after following these steps, kindly attach the troubleshooting text file along with the details of the troubleshooting steps taken to the support ticket. Our team will provide further assistance promptly.

4.5.4 Device Yellow Light

LED showing yellow light, usually indicating cable issue or network cable is crimped incorrectly.

1. You may try to replug the cable or try to plug in a different cable that works fine. You can test the cable with a cable tester.

2. If the issue persists after using a cable that works fine, kindly take a photo of the PoE switch/midspan and back office on how the cable was plugged in.

3. If able to prove other device working fine with the cable, but not working with the reported device, please raise a support ticket and attach the testing video in the support ticket for RMA (If within warranty).

4.6 Troubleshooting - How to connect to 3D Pro2 via secondary IP

4.6.1 Steps to set up the environment and troubleshooting 

1. Connect the people counter with POE midspan and plug into the PC directly.

2. Configure the PC's ethernet port settings, and set the IP address to '169.254.0.91', and Subnet Mask to 255.255.255.0.

3. Open Command Prompt and type ping -t 169.254.0.90

   Note: 169.254.0.90 is the secondary IP (Every people counter has this IP)

4. After you tried to ping the counter:

   1. If pingable, FootfallCam Support will be able to access people counters for further diagnostics. Kindly proceed to Step 5 and schedule for remote session for further assistance.

   2. If not pingable, means the people counter is faulty, and FootfallCam Support is unable to perform further diagnostics. Kindly proceed to Step 5 and proceed to replace it with a new unit.

5. Lastly, screenshot the ping result to FootfallCam Support for further advice.

4.6.2 Video tutorial on connecting to 3DPro 2 via secondary IP

4.7 Cabling Checking Guide

Switch the network cable from the current port to another port on network switch. If the above troubleshooting still doesn't solve the issue, raise a support ticket to FFC team.

Setting IP for Pro1

Pro1 has a default static IP 192.168.88.250. It is required to change the Pro1 IP to the same subnet as Centroid or Pro2 device before binding to them.

• Download and install the FFC Pro1 & CCTV Configuration Tool
• Run the tool, perform an IP search
  
• You should see your devices appear in the list. Click on the row that you wish to change, its current details will be shown on the right column.
  
• Enter the IP address, Subnet Mask and Gateway at the top as you wish. Leave the HTTP Port and TCP Port untouched. Then, enter the default password at the bottom. (Please contact FootfallCam for the password). Click Modify.
  
• A success message should show up on the screen
  
• After that, the IP in the list should reflect the change.
  

Viewing Live view before binding

After setting the IP, you may proceed to bind it to Centroid / Pro2. But if you wish to see the live view without binding first, you may do so in the browser.

• Download, install and run FFC CCTV Video Player Tool. It is a plug-in and will run in the background.
• Visit the IP of the Pro1 you just set in the browser. You will be greeted with the login page. If you see a prompt like so, the tool is likely not running. You may click on the prompt and let it run, refresh the page afterwards. In some cases, you might need to restart your pc after installing the tool if you keep seeing this prompt.
  
• After logging in, you will see the Live view of the Pro1

Staff exclusion is an additional functionality that FootfallCam provides to exclude staff footfall from the total footfall traffic. With this extra consideration, the data will be able to provide the true value of the visitors. 

There are 4 different methods of staff exclusion available, which are Staff Exclusion Line, Staff Exclusion Zone with Button, Staff Exclusion (Patterned Staff Tag) and Staff Exclusion (Fabric Staff Tag).

Method 1: Staff Exclusion Line

1.1 How Does It Work?

Staff Exclusion Line is a tuning parameter (the cyan color line as shown in the video) which could be added apart from the In / Out line so that people who walked across the exclusion line will not be counted as In or Out.

Staff exclusion in action: Notice that the person on the right who walked across the exclusion line is excluded from counting, whereas the person in the middle is counted as usual. 

1.2 Hardware & Environmental Requirements

1.3 Pros

• • Cheapest option (no additional hardware required, only tuning service charge).

1.4 Cons

• • Genuine visitors would also be discounted if they walked across the exclusion line.

  • Staff are required to only walk through their designated walk path in order to be excluded from counting.

1.5 Use Case

• • Ideal for entrances where there is a dedicated path for the staff to exit or enter the store.

Method 2: Staff Exclusion Zone with Button

2.1 How Does It Work?

Staff Exclusion Zone (the cyan zone as shown in the video) is a tuning parameter that defines a zone (usually in front of the wall) to discount the people who are standing within the zone when the button is pressed and they will not be counted even if they have walked across the tracking lines.

2.2 Hardware & Environmental Requirements

2.3 Pros

• • Can be configured so that visitors do not interfere with the staff exclusion process (e.g. in the picture shown, the Staff Exclusion Button and Zone are far away from the usual traffic of visitors).

    

2.4 Cons

• • The coverage of the counter needs to be big enough so that the Staff Exclusion Zone covers more area to avoid staff accidentally not standing in the zone when pressing the button.

2.5 Use Case

• • Suitable for any sites with a wall next to the entrance for mounting the Staff Exclusion Button.

Method 3: Staff Exclusion (Patterned Staff Tag)

3.1 How Does It Work?

FootfallCam Patterned Staff Tag^TM is an additional accessory with a unique pattern recognisable by the people counter. When a person enters the live view of the FootfallCam counter, the counter will be able to identify the person with the staff tag and exclude he/she from the visitor count even if they have walked across the tracking line.

The tag interacts with the counter passively, as the tag does not have battery and does not emit any signal or radio waves to the counter. Staff is only required to wear the tag on the shirt, and behave usually.

3.2 Hardware & Environmental Requirements

• • Staff Exclusion tag MUST be FootfallCam design of stripe pattern.

  • Ceiling Height

    • NOT supported for 2.5m and below.

    • Recommended ceiling height is 2.5m ~ 3.2m.

    • NOT supported for 3.2m and above.

  • Only for Normal Counting or Area Counting mode. Not Supported for Queue Counting or Heatmap Counting.

  • Live view must have enough walking space (> 2m from centre of live view, equivalent to > 4m coverage in the walking direction) for staff to be detected.

    • Enough unblocked walking space.

      

  • If the entrance is a sliding door, position FootfallCam People Counter at least 1m away from the door. If the entrance is a swing door, position FootfallCam People Counter at least 1m away from the edge of the door when it is widest open.

    • Cannot be too close to the entrance, otherwise part of the view will be blocked by the bar above the entrance.

      

  • The floor must be flat. No staircases, slanted or elevated ground.

    • No slanted floor or ramp.

      

    • No staircases.

      

  • Live view is clear of any blocking object.

    • No ceiling bar.

      

      
      

    • No decoration or exit sign.

      

    • No ceiling TV or air-conditioner.

      

  • Environment is bright and well lit.

    • No dark environment.

      

3.3 Pros

• • No additional actions are required for staff to perform.

  • No maintenance needed after the first set up.

  • No wireless emission and battery maintenance.

3.4 Cons

• • Additional cost needed for the Patterned Staff Tag.

  • Environment requirements need to be fulfilled for staff to be detected.

  • Accuracy might be affected if the guidelines for wearing staff tag are not followed.

3.5 Use Case

• • Suitable for sites where the device is able to cover enough unblocked walking space.

3.6 Guideline To Wear Staff Tag

• • Peel off the protective film on the Staff Exclusion Tag before use.

  • Wear tag in the centre of upper chest area for the best accuracy.

  • Wear tag upright, and not dangling downwards.

  • Wear tag in landscape orientation as shown below.

    

• • Do NOT wear tag with a lanyard or hide tag in pocket or cover tag with other objects such as tudung, scarf, hair, hand.

  • Do NOT hold the tag with hand.

  • Simple and plain coloured shirt works better than colourful shirt with complex patterns/stripes.

  • Walk at normal speed, otherwise motion blur might affect accuracy.

Method 4: Staff Exclusion (Fabric Staff Tag)

4.1 How Does It Work?

FootfallCam Fabric Staff Tag^TM is an additional accessory that uses the latest Time-of-flight technology to exclude any person wearing the tag from being counted. It adds a tuning parameter called TOF coverage zone (the dark blue color bounding zone as shown in the video), where it will discount any people wearing the fabric tag when they walk underneath the counter AND pass through the exclusion zone in dark blue color.

4.6 Guideline To Wear Fabric Tag

Step 1:  The fabric tag should be placed on the shoulder side of your staff uniform as shown in figure above. Make sure the silver material is always facing upward and not blocked by any obstacle. You may apply the fabric tag with iron (heat lamination) or sewing.

Step 2:  Run Walk Test with access to FootfallCam 5D Pro^TM, the Fabric Staff Tag must be exposed to the counter directly (line of sight). The coverage area would be with the centre of liveview as origin. Staff should always walk near to the center line of the counter position. The bounding box in dark blue color only serves as a reference of the estimated area for detecting the presence of staff tag. The effective area might shrink depending on the environment condition (e.g. ambient light level, target distance and reflectance, etc.).

Method 5: Staff Uniform Exclusion

5.1 How Does It Work?

Staff Uniform Exclusion works by teaching the system to recognize staff members based on their uniforms and remove them from the customer count. The idea is simple: if staff wear a consistent and recognizable uniform, the system can learn to identify it and automatically exclude those detections.

To achieve this, sample videos of staff walking are collected and broken down into images. These images are then used to train the system to recognize the unique features of the uniform, such as logos, colors, or patterns. Once trained, whenever someone is detected, the system checks whether the person is wearing the staff uniform. If yes, they are marked as staff and contribute to staff count. If not, they are counted as a customer.

Method 6: Staff Exclusion using Re-ID

6.1 How Does It Work?

Staff Exclusion using Re-ID works by recognizing repeated staff movement patterns over time and automatically removing them from customer counts. Instead of relying on badges, wearables, or uniforms, the system builds an anonymous "movement signature" based on non-personal visual cues such as body shape, clothing consistency, walking style, and walking path.

Whenever a person is detected, the system tracks how often and where they appear across different store zones. If the same individual repeatedly re-enters, or is consistently present in staff-only areas, the system classifies them as staff and excludes them from analytics. Customers, who usually visit once per day with a single journey path, are unaffected.

7.1 How Does It Work?

Staff Exclusion with Time-Based Adjustment works by applying a fixed staff adjustment to the customer count based on predefined schedules. This method uses predictable staffing patterns to estimate and exclude staff presence.

Through the system's user interface, retailers can specify:

• Day of the week (e.g., weekdays vs weekends)

• Hour of the day (e.g., opening hours, restocking periods, closing shifts)

• Adjustment method -- either a fixed number of staff to exclude (e.g., "5 staff at 9-10 am") or a percentage of detected traffic (e.g., "10% staff during morning shift").

Once configured, the system automatically applies these adjustments to the raw people count during reporting. This ensures that the customer analytics reflect genuine shoppers, not regular staff movements tied to shift schedules.

7.2 Hardware & Environmental Requirements

This method does not require any additional hardware or environmental setup. All processing takes place at the server level during data aggregation. This method only required the configuration within the V9 portal.

7.3 Pros

Method 8: Staff Exclusion using Scaling Factor

8.1 How Does It Work?

Staff Exclusion using Scaling Factor works by applying a fixed percentage adjustment to the total daily people count, rather than adjusting specific hours.

For example, if the store records 100 counts in a day and the assumed staff portion is set at 20%, the system will automatically exclude these 20 counts, reporting the final customer count as 80.

This approach provides a simple way to filter out staff when their presence is relatively consistent throughout the day.

8.2 Hardware & Environmental Requirements

This method does not require any additional hardware or environmental setup. All processing takes place at the server level during data aggregation. This method only required the configuration within the V9 portal.

8.3 Pros

• Very Simple to Implement: Requires only a one-time configuration of the staff percentage.

The counter exposes 2 GPIO output wires for control. The output wire color schemes are either green(+)/yellow(-) or grey(+)/brown(-). These wires are opto-isolated GPIO output and does not source power.

The optocoupler can only switch up to 30mA of current. More often than not the controlled device need much higher current than this, therefore a driver or relay is needed to switch the higher current.

The diagram below shows the connection from FootfallCam™ counter to a driver module which is in turn connected to a automatic door or traffic light. The module used in this example has a maximum continuous current limit of 9.2A which is sufficient for most automatic doors and traffic light. A secondary relay can be used if even higher currents need to be switched.

Another option is to use a 5V mechanical relay. The relay coil should have a power rating of 40mW or less due to the drive limit of the GPIO pin (8mA). This relay can be connected to a secondary relay of higher rated current to control the door or traffic light.

The counter can also be connected to a buzzer to sound an audio alert when the venue's maximum capacity is breached. The choice of implementation is not limited to these and is up to the user's creativity.

More Technical Information

At the fundamental level, the GPIO circuit uses an optocoupler to isolate the counter from external electrical signals for protection. The optocoupler used is ILD207T from Vishay Semiconductor. The circuit in the counter is designed to drive voltages in the range of 5-24V.

Optocouplers are designed for isolation and not for driving high currents, therefore an external MOSFET or relay is require to drive devices that require more than a few milliamps. The drive circuit is not designed into the counter to allow for more flexible integration.

Verifying Connections

To test the pin connection or relay output, connect to device SSID via Wifi and navigate to 192.168.4.1/GPIO.html. This simple UI serves the purpose of checking pin status as well as testing to change the pin status.

The Staff Exclusion button is usually mounted on the wall next to a doorway. There are 2 types of buttons, wired and wireless. The wired button can be connected the counter installed above the counting area. The diagram below shows the connection of the Staff Exclusion button to the counter.

Connect the Black wire to a positive voltage (5-24V) and the Red wire to the button. Connect the other wire of the button to Ground. When the button is pressed, a signal will be sent to the counter to exclude the staff.

There is also a wireless version of the button. The wireless button has a range of about 5-10m depending on the environment. The wireless buttons works with Footfallcam™ SEV3 variant (Please contact our support for more information). Needless to say, these buttons offers more convenience and mobility since no wiring is required. There is however a caveat, the wireless buttons function as a universal remote to all the Footfallcam™ SEV3. The wireless button is not ideal in setups where counters are installed in multiple entrances/exits that are in close proximity. If a staff presses a button when someone is entering or exiting nearby, that person may also be excluded. In this case it is safer to use the wired button solution.

METHODOLOGY

FootfallCam 3D Plus people counting systems are easily installed in the store, usually at the middle of doorway, facing perpendicularly down to count people coming in or going out when they passing by the counter. Counter should be installed at the top of the ceiling, as close to the door as possible (usually is 1m from the entrance).

A people counter is mounted directly on the surface of a ceiling and, therefore, completely visible. Surface mounting is commonly used for installation and it is easy to be done.

The installation for one counter camera is simple and easy. To connect Wi-Fi routers with people counter at the entrance ceiling, engineers need to run 1x CAT 5e network cable from back office to the entrance (door). The CAT 5e cable will be hidden inside the ceiling. Lastly, screw the people counter onto the ceiling using a ladder if required.

There are no drilling, lightning or noisy works during installation. The installation can be done quietly during the day, and will not affect the customers shopping experience.
